Big ideas

Food is information for the body

Students explore how food fuels the body and brain, and how sleep, movement, water and stress fit in. No food is good or bad here.

01

How nutrients work

Carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, fiber and water, and what each one does.

02

Body and brain

Digestion, energy, focus and mood, and how the body’s systems use food.

03

Daily habits

Sleep, water, movement and stress, and how they work together with food.

04

Smart consumer

Reading food labels, decoding food marketing and checking health claims online.

05

Food and culture

How families and cultures around the world eat together, and what we learn from them.

Week by week

Eight weeks, one live class each week

Between classes, sequenced Canvas modules hold short readings, small at-home investigations and reflections, graded with written feedback.

  1. Week 1

    Food, cells and energy

What nutrients are, where they come from, and how the body breaks food down.

  2. Week 2

    Nutrients up close

What each nutrient does, and how scientists know.

  3. Week 3

    Building balanced meals

Variety, color and the food groups. Students plan a balanced meal from foods they already enjoy.

  4. Week 4

    Body and brain

    Digestion, energy, focus and mood.

  5. Week 5

    Habits that work together

Sleep, water, movement and stress, and how each affects how we feel.

  6. Week 6

    Labels, ads and claims

What a nutrition label tells you, how food marketing works, and how to judge health advice online.

  7. Week 7

    Food, culture and community

How families and cultures eat together, shared from students’ own traditions if they wish.

  8. Week 8

    Final project

Students choose: present a recipe with the science behind it, design a habit experiment, or create a guide for younger learners.

Who it is for

A good fit if…

  • Middle and high school students
  • Students interested in health, sports, cooking or science careers
  • Families who want practical, evidence-based health education in a body-respectful setting

Before class

What you need

  • A computer with a camera and microphone
  • A reliable internet connection
  • Canvas access, set up by Quantum Montessori after enrollment
  • A notebook for observations
  • Occasional simple kitchen items, with a grown-up’s help as needed

The Montessori way

This is practical life for older students: real skills for caring for oneself, practiced with real food and real questions. Students choose their final project and investigate ideas with evidence, not rules handed down. There are no diets, no calorie counting and no talk about body size.

Questions families ask

Good to know

Will you talk about weight or diets?

No. There are no diets, no calorie counting, no weighing and no talk about body size. Every food can fit, and every family’s table is respected.

Is this medical advice?

No. This is an educational course. Questions about a student’s health belong with their doctor. Students never share personal health information in class.

How is work graded?

Canvas reflections, investigations and the final project are graded with written feedback that Home Guides can view.

Do students need to cook?

Only if they choose the recipe project, and always with a grown-up’s help as needed.
