What we read and write

Every kind of text

Students meet a new form every week or two, read model texts closely in live class, then practice the craft in a full work cycle.

01

Short stories

Plot, character, point of view and theme, ending with a one-scene story of their own.

02

Poetry and figurative language

Rhythm, form, imagery, metaphor and symbolism, read aloud and written.

03

A class novel

Literature circles, reading journals and discussion of a novel chosen by the Guide for the group.

04

Nonfiction analysis

Central ideas, author’s purpose and how arguments are built in articles and speeches.

05

Essays and research

Clear claims, strong evidence, reliable sources and citing without plagiarism.

06

Creative writing and presenting

Stories and poems in the student’s own voice, shared with confidence.
