Movie Review Club
A club for students who love movies and like to talk about them. Families watch the film at home before class. Then we meet to discuss the story, the characters, the music and the camera, and each student shares a rating and a review.
- Ongoing club
- 1 live class a week
- 1 hour
- Grouped by age
- $130 / month
What students do
Watch it. Talk it. Rate it. Review it.
Every film is a story someone built on purpose. Students learn to notice how it was made and to explain what they think.
Watch with purpose
Each film comes with two or three things to notice, so students watch closely, not just for fun.
Talk it through
Guided discussion about favorite moments, turning points and why characters made their choices.
Rate with reasons
Students rate story, characters, sound and look, and back every score with a moment from the film.
Write or record a review
Short written or spoken reviews that summarize without spoilers and give a clear opinion.
Film elements
Story structure, music, camera angles and color, explained in plain words and spotted in real scenes.
Respectful disagreement
Two people can love and dislike the same movie. Students practice listening and disagreeing kindly.
A month in the club
A new lens each week
Students choose from a parent-approved list of G and PG films. Each week adds one way of looking at a movie.
- Week 1
Story
Beginning, middle and end. What did the main character want, and what stood in the way?
- Week 2
Characters
Who changed, who did not, and how the film showed it.
- Week 3
Sound and music
How music, silence and sound effects change how a scene feels.
- Week 4
Camera and color
Close-ups, wide shots and color choices, and what they tell the audience.

Before class
What you need
- Time to watch the week’s film at home before class
- A device with a camera and microphone
- A notebook or a simple document for notes
- Family approval of each film on our list
The Montessori way
Students choose films from a prepared list and follow their own questions, while the Guide gives just enough structure to go deeper. Discussion is practice in grace and courtesy: listening fully, speaking in turn and disagreeing kindly.
Questions families ask
Good to know
