The Making of America: People, Systems & Communities

American history did not happen in separate chapters.

In development · K–12 · Online in Canvas · Waitlist families hear first, with founding-family pricing and a sample lesson.

Why this course

The question becomes, "How were all of these people and systems shaping the country together?"

While one community was migrating, another was fighting over land, another was building an institution, another was organizing labor, another was inventing technology, and another was challenging the law.

The Making of America: People, Systems & Communities will be the integrative course in our American Histories & Heritage collection.

Students will examine major periods of U.S. history by looking at multiple communities and systems at the same time.

Land.

Government.

Labor.

Technology.

Migration.

Business.

Education.

Family.

Culture.

Law.

Environment.

The question is no longer, "Whose month is this?"

PK–K

Concrete + story

Short stories, images, objects, movement, art, sorting, maps and vocabulary introduce historical ideas in concrete ways.

Grades 1–5

Build + connect

Students map, classify, build, observe, research, write, and connect people and events to larger ideas about community, invention, geography and human needs.

Grades 6–8

Context + evidence

Students investigate systems, historical context and sources, keep evidence notes, and explain what evidence supports and what it cannot establish.

Grades 9–12

Research + interpretation

Students compare and evaluate sources, build evidence-based arguments, and synthesize their learning in a substantial portfolio or digital museum.
